When you are sure of getting a suit, as a buyer, multiple questions arise. That’s a good thing, making sure of all the possible problems, and what you are getting yourself into is never a waste of time nor effort. As a tailor ourselves, we compiled questions one should ask before getting a custom suit, thus here are our top 7 questions to ask beforehand.
1.Ask for the price, with all the customizations you have in mind.
When consulting a tailor, tell them exactly what you want, from the fabric to customization areas. This is to get the exact price, and see if it fits your budget or not.
The perfect suit must have all your wants, but also not go over your budget, this is for no future regrets and you, as a buyer will feel that it’s the best decision you’ve ever made.
However, do keep in mind if you really want some customization, and you are certain about it, the price will exceed your original budget, so be prepared to change some areas or have some room for extra money to splurge.
2.Ask how many days it will take for all your garments to finish, and how many days it’ll take with some flexible dates.
The period of days required for a garment is a very important question, asking it early makes it easy to plan your schedule around the garments, seeing whether you can accept the required time spent.
It’s also a good heads up to ask the tailor for flexible dates, as mistakes may happen and human error is uncertain when making bespoke garments.
3.Ask for the amount of fittings you need for your bespoke garment.
All bespoke garments usually take 2-3 fittings per piece, if more changes need to be made after each fitting, it may require some more appointments, but on the other hand if the garments fit just like how you want, then it can be done in 2 fittings.
4.Ask how many alterations can be done for all the amount of fittings.
Usually the alterations in terms of how it fits are around less than 5 times, if it exceeds that some tailors may ask for additional payments. Or if the alterations are additional customizations; some patches, embroideries, linings, and more, it might require payments for that option.
5.Ask for fabric recommendations for the type of occasion you’re going for.
In order to get a perfect bespoke suit for the right event, always tell your tailor before on what occasion you’re getting the garments for, and what kind of fabric you should go for. Sometimes buyers don’t keep in mind on certain fabrics; which climate suits what type the most, what fabric is better for a formal/non formal event, we advise finding some info first, and ask the tailor for advice and further recommendations.
6.Ask for comparisons in fabric quality and price.
After asking for recommendations, let the tailor compare the fabric among various choices, this ensures that you’re getting the best choice that suits you the most. Knowing how to take care, wash, and maintain certain fabrics is crucial yet often unnoticed by many.
Tailors have a lot of knowledge on fabrics, seeing their expertise is also a way to make sure you’re in good hands and getting your money’s worth. All fabrics have different price rates, make sure you find one in your price range.
7.Ask for online services, for future purchases after being satisfied with their service.
With the change of purchasing behavior, many tailors have online repurchase options available. Once you’re satisfied with a previous purchase and know that you might be needing more in the future, ask your tailors if they ship internationally, and what to do with the measurement part.
Most tailors keep your measurements, but if your body changes, ask for how to do it online. It’s crucial for all the numbers to be exact hence there is no 1st, 2nd, or 3rd fitting.
In today’s world, getting a bespoke suit or dress is becoming more in demand, it’s never a wrong choice to get one, since it’s tailormade only for your body.
